Today the presence of LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) cars is increasingly loved by the people of Indonesia. Besides the cheap price, easy maintenance is also the reason. Almost all car manufacturers in Indonesia are competing to create cars that are able to answer market demands, including Toyota.

Toyota presents Calya as a filler for the LCGC market. Toyota Calya comes with prices ranging from Rp. 147 million to Rp. 165 million in the Indonesian market.

Many people ask at such low prices and what specifications buyers get. Is it true that starting prices must reduce quality? Of course, this is a challenge for Toyota. That’s why this review was made in order to explain a little what will be obtained by the buyer when bringing home this car.

To present a fair review, we present the right competitor for the Toyota Calya, namely Daihatsu Sigra. In terms of price it is not too far away. Starting from the price of Rp 100 million to Rp 160 million

The LCGC market is able to give birth to new models and types of cars. Because of the market demands for cheap cars with maintenance costs that are not too high. Toyota Calya and Daihatsu become one of the young dreamed LCGC cars in Indonesia. Both cars compete in terms of price, engine and body dimensions.

Toyota Calya EM / T

1. Exterior and Body Dimensions

LCGC car bodies tend to be petite, including the Toyota Calya, with a length of 4,070 mm, width of 1,655 mm and height of 1,600 mm. But make no mistake, even though the petite body, this car can accommodate 7 people.

The outside appearance of this car is quite fashionable. Indentation in the front hood and a large flashy grille makes the car priced at Rp 140 million is not cheap. Not to mention the large tail light that adds luxurious accents.

2. Engine Performance and Transmission

The engine under the hood of the Toyota Calya E M / T is 3NR series with a DOHC valve configuration. This engine has a capacity of 1,197 cc with a maximum power of 87 HP at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 110 Nm at 4,200 rpm.

Not much can be discussed in terms of transmission and engine. Because you could say pretty standard. But make no mistake, with a machine like this Toyota Calya car is quite reliable and stubborn devouring the road in big cities.

3. Suspension and Braking

Toyota Calya uses MacPherson Strut technology for the front and Torsion Beam. This suspension is able to provide comfort when driving on city streets. Of course the chassis of the Toyota Calya is designed to be able for highway. On the other hand, Toyota Calya already has ABS features that can help drivers ensure vehicle control when braking.

Daihatsu Sigra 1.2 R Deluxe M / T

Daihatsu Sigra has not been able to surpass Toyota Calya in terms of sales. In 2019 Daihatsu Sigra ranked third for the sale of LCGC type cars. But many argue that the Daihatsu Sigra is a twin like Toyota Calya.

1. Exterior and Body Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the two cars are very similar, ranging from the same length and height to all. Daihatsu Sigra 1.2 R MT has a front wheelbase distance of 1,470 mm and a rear wheelbase distance of 1,475 mm. The ground clearance of this car is also quite high, which is 180 mm.

But there is a unique one of the Daihatsu Sigra 1.2 R MT which is an additional rear spoiler that makes the car look sportier. Not to mention the new front bumper model makes the Daihatsu Sigra 1.2 R MT look more ferocious.

2. Engine Performance and Transmission

The car’s has a 3NR-VE, DOHC Dual VVT-i with a capacity of 1,197 cc. The Daihatsu Sigra 1.2 R MT engine is capable of providing power of 87 HP at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 108 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The amount of tank capacity was 32 liters.

The transmission used by this car is divided into manual and automatic. For manual transmission, it presents 5 gear speeds, whereas for manuals it only gives 4 forward speeds.

3. Suspension and Braking

Daihatsu Sigra 1.2 R MT pinned the same suspension, namely MacPherson Strut for the front suspension and Semi Independent Torsion Axle Beam for the rear suspension. The suspension used by these two cars is arguably the LCGC standard, because indeed the use of this car is mostly on city streets that are not too rough in general.

Unfortunately, Daihatsu Sigra still does not have ABS features on its braking, so motorists must be careful when braking.

Conclusion

With an affordable price, of course the specifications provided are very mediocre. But that does not mean that cars in the LCGC segment are not worth buying. Practicality is the mainstay of this type of car. Toyota Calya at an affordable price is able to provide features that can add a different driving experience than other cars.
